Dark and Light Date:
NPCube held true to their earlier statement regarding a more formal announcement on the delay of Dark and Light and the new expected release date for sometime this November. From the website:
NPCUBE, developer of the MMORPG Dark and Light, and publisher Farlan Entertainment, jointly announce today that the release date for Dark and Light has been set to November 2005.

César Jacquet, CEO of NPCube, says: "The development team has been reorganized and reinforced in order to strengthen its technical experience and to rewrite the elements of the game engine that were too slow and lacked the flexibility required for DnL expectations. The game has to be able to permanently evolve along with its community".
They are also including 2500 new beta testers into the game.

First of all, there is always an event going on inside the Matrix. Every day, our Live Event Team is visiting every server, plotting and scheming along side players as they make organizational alliances, infiltrate opposing factions, and generally delve into the evolving story line of The Matrix Online. Key players from all three of the major organizations, represented by Zion, Machines, and the Merovingian, appear to be taking steps to build their respective power bases. UPDATED: Nevrax Reorgs, MDO and Themis Changes:
David Cohen Corval, President of Nevrax has announced that the company is going through a reorg for their game "Saga of Ryzom" which has been lacking interest in North America.

Within two letters to the community he also addresses the steps that they will take to ensure the future success of the game. which includes the merging of servers and that Jolt Online Gaming will now be taking care of all the SoR shards in addition to what they were already handling (Jolt has been a partner since the launch of SoR in charge of all the servers infrastructure - machines and bandwidth - as well as the CS / GM / EM / CM for the European shard).

Within the second letter he had this to say:
I like the Themis and MDO team members very much, and I have a lot of respect for their work, and pride in their proven passion. It was all the more difficult for me to begin the reorganisation, but reality remains : we don't have the right number of registered players to support the configuration we have had until now. And even if we made important financial efforts to support our partners over the past months, it is no longer possible for Nevrax. Adaptation has become necessary. We discussed the reorganisation with all the partners over several weeks. and each had the opportunity to make their proposals. But ultimately I had to make the decision looking at what is in the best interest for SoR.
We applaud Neverax for taking the needed steps to continue to make a successful game, but can not fail to note this is the fourth title Themis has been removed from (JumpGate, Anarchy Online, and Wish).

Ed: The Future of the Casual Player
Minister Vado tells us:
We stand upon the threshold of change. The signs are everywhere: ads litter train stations and the sides of buses, flash annoys the $#!% out of you when visiting your favorite sites, commercials might cause a double-take since you, like me, weren't likely giving the tely your full attention during the break…I'm even betting on a short segment in the evening news in the days coming.

Maybe you won't feel the impact immediately; maybe you'll only notice the slight drop in available bandwidth. It's very possible that your personal tastes will render you completely immune to the coming tidal wave, but rest assured we're on the horizon of content delivered via a most convenient medium. Of course, the content of which I speak is our most beloved time-killer, gaming.

Project Entropia Lawsuit Ends:
After a two year investigation into MindArk and Project Entropia Microsoft, Adobe, Macromedia, and Autodesk have chosen to drop all of their "Copyright Infringement Charges."
Project Entropia, the fastest growing virtual world utilizing a real cash economy, today announces the closing of the two-year long Business Software Alliance (BSA) lawsuit against Project Entropia developer MindArk. In May 2002, members of the BSA, including Microsoft, Adobe Systems, Macromedia, and Autodesk, claimed that Swedish game maker, MindArk, had been illegally using software and other computer programs to run its facility. Since then MindArk has shown that all accusations made by theses companies and the BSA were false and that MindArk always had, and continues to operate legally violating no copyright infringements or software licensing rules, says MindArk CEO, Jan Welter.

Despite the controversy surrounding the investigation, MindArk's Project Entropia continued to grow, building a massive virtual community currently reaching 233,000 registered members. The recent announcement of the auction sale of "Treasure Island" in December, 2004, also aided in boosting membership and interest in the popular MMORPG, as thousands flocked online to bid on a valuable parcel of land resulting in the largest virtual real estate MMORPG purchase in history at a sale price of $26,500.

Irvine, Calif. - Monday, March 28, 2005 - Blizzard Entertainment® today announced their plans to debut World of Warcraft: Northrend the first expansion to World of Warcraft, its award winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The expansion will be aimed largely at higher level players, and will involve a higher level cap, bigger and larger dungeons both inside and outside in Northrend and elsewhere, and many new items and quests. Blizzard is also expected to announce that the game's graphic engine has been further enhanced as planned to keep World of WarCraft in line with the latest technology.

Shadowbane 2 Rumor Mill:
While no official comment from UBI or Wolfpack on the rumor of a Shadowbane 2 game, Sean "Ashen Temper" Dahlberg has joined the development community of blogging with his site, AshenTemper.com where he states:
The fact that I've had so many inquiries is great, it means that there is still a desire for PvP Games that are not completely twitch/FPSish and need more tactics than +5 Levels. With that said, I cannot confirm... nor can I deny... this rumor.
But he sure does put feelers out their to not dash the happy images dancing within players heads as he discuss'es PvP aspects for MMO games.

Atriarch Update:
World Fusion has an update on the Atriarch website announcing the first (worst) phase of beta testing for the game set to start this July:
We will begin with a small outside testing group with Atriarch in July. The closest industry term for this phase of testing is alpha. However, a shirt I saw at Game Developer's Conference (GDC) last week captured the essence of early testing phases more accurately. Lucent Technologist and AI Programmer, Neil Kirby, was wearing a project shirt that read "Worst-First Testing Team". I think the phrase speaks for itself, and I decided to adopt the philosophy for Atriarch testing :-)

IGN For Sale?
c|net has reason to believe that IGN, which includes all of the Vault sites covering MMO Games, along with V3 and GameSpy could be for sale based on article which appeared in the Wall Street Journal.
The WSJ thinks the IGN empire could fetch as much as $800 million.

IGN is also said to be considering an IPO, an odd choice considering that it's less than two years since the company went private, after three profit-challenged years as a public entity.

An IGN representative said only that the company is "looking at several options to fund our growth."

Adellion Community Letter:
The Adellion website from Alchemic Dreams has been updated with a letter to the community including several screenshots from the Alpha version (which is running right now) and characters' artworks.
First, there was the admission of our first group of testers. They got a chance to look at our Alpha 1 or “environmental” version. This is a special version of a single two square mile game tile that we use to test many of the environmental aspects of the game. Our testers got to take a character and run around on the game world, checking the game to see if it ran on their own home hardware.

There were a few interesting bugs uncovered, and more than a few interesting discussions and suggestion on what they saw. In general, the reaction was very positive and we got quite a bit of material from them to think about.

I was highly impressed with the PvP content we saw this month, and I think it lays a good foundation for the future. My problem right now revolves around guild members waiting for a GvsG slot to open, and tiring of Tombs PvP because its "meaningless" (as in no ladder, etc). I dislike the idea of forming two guilds because it makes moving, switching, etc a pain in the rear but until Tombs is actually worth something I don't see much choice.

MMO Game Cash Brokers:
PlaySend sends word they have launched their third party broker service for transferring in game currency to other players with current support for Ultima Online, Project Entropia, and Second Life:
The service ?PlaySend- consists of performing in-game deliveries on behalf of MMORPG and Game currency sellers to their buyers.

What it does:
The PlaySend service removes the burden of in-game deliveries from sellers by doing deliveries for them. It also reduces the uncertainty of buyers by providing a trusted common carrier.

How it works:
Any seller, or anyone using PlaySend, can deposit, send and retrieve game currency at their convenience. As sales happen, sellers use a simple web interface to send currency to multiple players. Buyers are notified via e-mail ? even if they are not registered in PlaySend - registration is automatic and kicks into action a referral system. The service charges a small percentage fee expressed in game currency upon deposits, and allows the unlimited sending and retrieval of game currency. Furthermore, PlaySend will record the ?referrer? of every account created automatically during a transfer, and grants the ?referrer? a percentage of all deposit fees the new account ever incurs.

As a buyer, receiving currency is as simple as logging in with the User ID and password sent automatically. PlaySend operators perform the in-game deliveries.

Bottom line:
For sellers and brokers: Less time spent performing routine tasks frees up time to focus on selling more, faster, with a higher level of quality, while expanding into more games.
For players, uncertainty is replaced by convenience, known quality and a unified process and interface.

Background:
A major challenge of the industry providing currency to players is the time-consuming task of online in-person delivery (meeting with buyers inside their games.) The current state of this industry is equivalent to a catalog business in a world where no postal service exists and deliveries are done directly by sellers; worse yet, they?re done at the exact moment the buyer demands delivery, creating huge inefficiencies. On the buyer side, delivery method, timeliness and availability are always a question mark.

PlaySend raises the bar to a superior standard, and at the same time levels the playing field by providing equal access to a service sorely needed in the most challenging areas this industry faces: Human scalability for sellers and quality of service for buyers.
I'm not even going to try and figure it out.

Three Rings Game Toolkit:
Three Rings, the makers behind "Puzzle Pirates" send word that they have released an open source MMO Game Toolkit and that they have launched the Game Gardens website for said toolkit.
Three Rings, developer of massively multi-player online games, today annouced the release under an open source license of their Narya toolkit for creating online multi-player games, the same toolkit used to create their flagship product, "Yohoho! Might & Magic Online?
Ubisoft has revealed their game line-up for 2005-2006. Of interesting note is the reference to the Might & Magic liscense they picked up after bidding wars with other MMO Game companies last year(?). They buried it at the bottom of the of the listing.
Settlers5 Nebelreich addon (English port)
187 Ride or Die"
New chapter of Brothers In Arms
Far Cry add on
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 3
Peter Jackson's King Kong
Prince of Persia 3
Silent Hunter 4
Heroes of Might & Magic 5
Splinter Cell 4
The Settlers mission pack
Product with Might & Magic brand
While they have ignored any reference to a Shadowbane 2 rumor, Corp News has noted that they heard word that Damion "Ubiq" Schubert is involved in another project at Wolfpack.

Speculation is fun.

WoW, 1.5 Million Subscribers:
SOE weeps as Blizzard sends this announcment out about World of Warcraft:
Irvine, Calif. - March 18, 2005 - Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that World of Warcraft®, its massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), has surpassed the 1.5 million subscriber mark, underscoring the game's continued success around the world. Building on its record-breaking debuts in North America, Korea, and Europe, World of Warcraft has reached global peak concurrency - the number of subscribers playing at the same time in each market - of more than 500,000 players.

"All of us at Blizzard are extremely gratified and amazed at the international demand for World of Warcraft," said Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard Entertainment. "From region to region, we've seen a phenomenal level of enthusiasm for World of Warcraft, and we're absolutely thrilled people are enjoying the game so much."

Since its debut in North America on November 23, 2004, World of Warcraft has launched to critical and commercial success in Korea and Europe, exploding in popularity across the globe. In the span of a few short months, World of Warcraft has achieved record-breaking milestones, including:

Europe:
o Over 290,000 account creations and 180,000 peak concurrency in its first weekend.
o Over 500,000 active subscribers, and 230,000 peak concurrency to date.

Korea:
o The most successful 100-day launch of any MMORPG in Korean history since its commercial release on January 18, 2005.
o World of Warcraft is currently played in 75% of Korean Internet Game Rooms (IGRs), the primary venue for playing games in Korea. IGRs subscribe directly to MMORPGs and then players buy blocks of time from the IGRs for game time.

North America:
o Over 200,000 subscribers and 100,000 peak concurrency achieved in the game's first 24 hours.
o Current subscriber base of over 800,000 players.

Blizzard Entertainment is now focused on preparing the game for launch in additional regions in Asia and firming up service support in existing data centers. World of Warcraft is scheduled to launch in China in 2005, where excitement for the game has already reached a fevered pitch, as evidenced by the 100,000 applications for the limited open beta in just the first hour of signups on February 28, 2005. Launches in Taiwan and other regions are scheduled to follow closely thereafter.
So, MMO Gaming is popular again and everyone is going to want to have a "Billion" (/evil laughter) subscribers now?

As The Industry Changes:
A few changes within the MMO Community appears to have taken place during GDC last week. First up is the announcment from camp SOE that Jon "Calandryll" Hanna is no longer involved with the company. While it has not been officially announced, word has it he has joined Turbine as the Director of Community Relations. Taking over for him at SOE will be Diane "Tiggs" Migliaccio as the new Director of Community Relations for Star Wars Galaxies.

Unnanounced is also the departure of Gordon "Tyrant" Walton who was the Studio Manager of SOE Austin and is now being listed in E3Expo marketing as a "Consultant," but can be found in an interview talking to Jonric at Vault.

Congrats to everyone on the moves.
Is this a bad thing for SOE?

In other game industry news, Ncsoft announces that Cryptic's City of Heroes is joining the paper gaming world with Eden Studios as well as the card game market with Alderac Entertainment Group. Meanwhile IGN grabbed John Turtizin, Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Marvel Enterprises to talk about the ongoing lawsuit of Marvel versus Cryptic Studios who says, "The case remains absolutely as strong as when Marvel filed its complaint -- stronger even because the judge has held that Marvel has stated claims for copyright and trademark infringement, among other claims." So it must be true, right? Right!

Shadowbane Update:
Word comes out of Wolfpack Studios that the Shadowbane Team has updated the Development section of the Chronicle of Strife with information pertaining to the next major update entitled "A Call to Arms".
Character Stat Refinement - Allowing players to modify their attributes has been one of the most requested features from the community since the game's launch. The main goal behind Character Stat Refinement is to prevent players from having to restart their characters due to real or perceived mistakes in allocating Stat Points. The existing Refiner hireling will gain this ability.

The Hotbar - A new window will be added to the interface called a Hotbar. This window will hold any power or ability that a player can place for quick activation and/or reference. Any Power, ability, or usable item that can be hot keyed will be able to be placed in the Hotbar.
No replies yet as to the wishful rumor of a Shadowbane II from "The Corp."

EQ Turns Six:
The EQLive team announced to their community that EverQuest has turned six.
Not many things are part of our lives for as many as 6 years. We are in High School for 4 years, most of us anyway. College is also 4 years. Few television shows are a part of our lives for 6 years. EverQuest has changed gaming and revolutionized virtual worlds.
PC games do not usually have this kind of following, for this many years. Granted, computer games have not been around as long as other mediums, but in that short time, few games have enjoyed this longevity with this measure of success. 9 expansions have been added to EverQuest and I can think of no other game that has added that much content to an already expansive world, rich and alive with content and adventure. No game has held my interest for nearly as long as EverQuest and it may be that none will; only time will tell.
It brings a tear to thine eye, read the full announcement.

MxO Game Events:
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and SEGA have just revealed that upon the launch of The Matrix Online on March 22, 2005, a specialized role-playing live events team will propel the game's storyline with prominent Matrix character action.
As part of the unique continuing story based nature of The Matrix Online, a specialized Role Playing Live Events Team is in place to assume the roles of the actual Matrix characters and support the continuation of the storyline within The Matrix Online, a massively multi-player online game co-published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and SEGA. Within the context of the storyline, players will interact, battle and eventually team up with the main characters from The Matrix saga, as the experienced Live Events Team will actively role play their Wachowski Brothers approved, continuously written parts, including Morpheus, The Oracle, Seraph, The Merovingian and more.

Further, the Live Events Team will also be responsible for producing and implementing large scale story events that are real-time gameplay activities, which progress the story in The Matrix Online. Sample activities that the Live Events Team will produce are:

- Choreographed, Live interaction with characters from The Matrix saga, including Morpheus, The Oracle, The Merovingian and more
- In-game story relevant contests
- High-profile missions with Matrix characters, inclusive of key players from the game
- Supporting player organized events
- Speeches, riots, parties, duels and more
Finally, someone willing to invest in a real live events team!

Tuesday also marked the end of beta testing with a twist as the game closed down to prepare for live:
The Beta came to a stunning conclusion as a war broke out between The Machines and the people of Zion. The Exiles, lead by The Merovingian, picked up and left the Matrix
in order to wait for the resolution of the battle.

The Matrix Online showed for the first time the power of the story - MAJOR characters made LIVE appearances. Morpheus, Niobe, Seraph, and the Merovingian all made appearances in the game giving speeches to players and rallying them to their side. Niobe was even spotted going into battle against many Agents.

The Machines turned the sky red and filled it with all-seeing eyes. They then proceeded to hunt down INDIVIDUAL players, calling them out by name and chasing them down for deletion. Other players would rally around the named and try to defend them from the Agents.

Later in the day, Agents began spreading a Fire Virus fire that would infect all players.

Finally, the Machines succeeded in rebooting the Matrix after crumpling all players like aluminum cans in a final blow to Zion.
The entire event was reported on LIVE by Radio Free Zion. They had their DJs spread through the Matrix and would report on Agent movements, player uprisings, Morpheus sightings, and Fire Virus infestations.

Tactica Online Website:
The official website for Tactica Online from Imaginary Numbers is now online. Included is GamePlay Overviews, A Developer Letter, Gallery with screenshots, and historical overviews on which the game will be based within. From the Dev Letter:
My name is Luke Carruthers, and I'm the CEO of Imaginary Numbers, the company behind Tactica, and Creative Director for the project.

These web sites are pretty formal things for the most part, and we wanted to have a way to talk with you all that wasn't quite so formal. Not everyone reads forums though (and we won't have any local forums for a while yet), so we thought it would be good to do a regular look-behind-the-scenes kind of column, where we could talk about aspects of development that perhaps weren't quite ready to get their own section of the site.

Thus was born the Dev Diary, in which one of us (usually me, everyone else always seems to have something to do . . . ) will expound about some aspect of development. To start us off, I want to talk a bit about what exactly Tactica is, and why.

Everyone's excited about online games these days. They're the fastest growing segment of PC gaming, and there are more in development than you can shake a stick at. The problem is, almost all of them are classical RPG's, and, while we love a good RPG as much as the next person (Planescape: Torment, mmmm), do we really need a dozen of them at the same time?
Check it.

In this week’s Recon feature update, we have introduced information about Infantry. In addition to the ripples of sheer maniacal pleasure people get while playing Auto Assault and blasting buildings into smoking rubble, there’s a special sort of glee one feels when mowing down these expendable cogs in the bad guys’ arsenals.

The Rocky Mountain News ran a nice little story about their recent visit to the NetDevil office and preview of Auto Assault. Though the reporter accidentally got SamuraiPenguin’s real name wrong (it’s Ryan, not Brian, Seabury,) the article is a good read and features some new artwork. Check it out!

CoH Beats Marvel:
NCsoft and Cryptic win the first round of the City of Heroes lawsuit filed against them by Marvel Comics for copyright infringement as an LA Judge dismissed the allegations.
A U.S. district court judge in Los Angeles dismissed several key claims by comic book publisher Marvel Enterprises, Inc in the company's trademark and copyright infringement case against online computer game publisher NCsoft® Corporation and game developer Cryptic StudiosTM. Marvel sued NCsoft and Cryptic Studios in November of last year, claiming that the City of Heroes® online computer game allows players to imitate comic book characters owned by Marvel.

In a March 9 order, U.S. District Court Judge R. Gary Klausner agreed with NCsoft that some of Marvel's allegations and exhibits should be stricken as "false and sham" because certain allegedly infringing works depicted in Marvel's pleadings were created not by users, but by Marvel itself.

The judge also dismissed more than half of Marvel's claims against NCsoft and Cryptic Studios, including Marvel's claims that the defendants directly infringed Marvel's registered trademarks and are liable for purported infringement of Marvel's trademarks by City of Heroes' users. In addition, he dismissed Marvel's claim for a judicial declaration that defendants are not an online service provider under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The judge dismissed all of these claims without leave to amend, meaning that Marvel cannot refile these claims.

Although the judge allowed certain claims to survive the motion to dismiss, NCsoft and Cryptic Studios are pleased with the result and are confident that both the law and the facts will support their case. In fact, citing a 1984 Supreme Court case holding that the sale of video cassette recorders did not violate copyright law, the Court noted that "It is uncontested that Defendants' game has a substantial non-infringing use. Generally the sale of products with substantial non-infringing uses does not evoke liability for contributory copyright infringement." Only "where a computer system operator is aware of specific infringing material on the computer system, and fails to remove it, the system operator contributes to infringement," the Court stated.

The defendants have 10 days in which to answer and dispute Marvel's allegations and to assert legal defenses to the remaining claims as well as to assert any counterclaims.
BAM! WOP! POW! Even.

Gods & Heroes Announced:
Perpetual Entertainment is really jumping into the MMO universe, with Start Trek Online in development, they announce their second title, "Gods & Hereos: Rome Rising," set in Ancient Rome.
Perpetual Entertainment, Inc., the developer of the upcoming Star Trek Online, announced today Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising, a new massively multi-player game (MMG) designed by Stieg Hedlund, the lead designer of Diablo II. Gods and Heroes is being unveiled for selected industry journalists in private showings at Perpetual's offices during the week of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), March 9-11, and will launch in the fall of this year.

In Gods and Heroes, players become classic heroes of the ancient world, born of immortal blood. As a scion of the gods, each player will have the opportunity to pursue his destiny through a series of Epic Quests that will span all levels of gameplay, over time commanding amazing God Powers and acquiring famous weapons and treasure of myth.

"Gods and Heroes offers what every player craves in an MMG: content," said Chris McKibbin, Co-Founder and President of Perpetual Entertainment, and Executive Producer of Gods and Heroes. "There will be over 1,250 quests at the time of launch, all tied in to the characters and the themes of the unique areas in the game. In addition, players will enjoy private zones for individually tailored gameplay, rich skill-based character development, fully integrated social systems, player-to-player interaction tools, and ongoing contested areas such as forts, territories, towns, castles and mines."

The game will be set in Rome around 300 BC, a time when the Republic is powerful, but Roman enemies including the Carthaginians, Gauls, and Samnites threaten the fledgling imperial holdings. Worse, the land is beset by terrible creatures, such as Gorgons, Cyclopes, and Furies. As heroes of Rome, players will take on missions to expand and protect the Republic, her interests, and her citizens, and will serve one of the twelve great Roman gods. Future expansions are planned to open up new lands and new pantheons of gods

Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising will implement the most interactive, dynamic, strategic and engaging combat system of any MMG – challenging players before battle as well as during battle. Players will strategically select and train their NPC Soldiers in a variety of skills and abilities to form individual squads that meet specific challenges, and devise strategies and create formations for these squads to execute on command – maximizing the unique skills and abilities of each individual squad.

"We are thrilled to be able to announce this title during the Game Developer's Conference 2005. We can't wait to share our genre-defining 3D graphics, animation, effects and sound," said Joe Keene, Co-Founder and CEO of Perpetual. "This is an exciting time for Perpetual Entertainment, with both Gods and Heroes and Star Trek Online under development."
Check it out, it looks pretty good and has great talent behind it already!

MxO Gold, IBM Does Hosting:
Warner Bros. sends word out that The Matrix Online has gone gold:
The highly anticipated continuation to The Matrix film trilogy, The Matrix Online has gone gold and is on track for a March 22, 2005 launch. The MMOG, co-published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and SEGA, will take tens of thousands of players down the rabbit hole and unveil a story full of twists and turns allowing them to take an active role in helping determining the future of the Matrix saga.
In addition to the gold announcment Warner Brothers also announces they have chosen IBM to provide the games infrastructure:
Warner Bros. Online today announced that IBM will provide the on-demand technology and services to power The Matrix Online, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), co-published with SEGA of America.

Based on The Matrix film trilogy, The Matrix Online will be released in North America on March 22, 2005 and in Europe on April 8, 2005.

"Warner Bros. Online is working with IBM to help build a flexible, resilient infrastructure that will be able to `continue the saga' of The Matrix trilogy and support the complex demands of a MMORPG," said Jim Noonan, senior vice president and general manager of Warner Bros. Online.

"Responsive and highly flexible technology is required to create an engaging and complete urban environment for players in The Matrix Online," said Jason Hall, senior vice president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Warner Bros. Online and IBM are working toward this goal in order to help provide a true interactive, online space that will allow gamers to continue the storyline of the Matrix."

To support The Matrix Online, Warner Bros. Online will implement IBM hardware, including IBM eServer pSeries systems and IBM eServer xSeries systems for overall infrastructure support. In addition, Warner Bros. Online will deploy IBM WebSphere Application Server for registration and billing; and IBM software to map out a blueprint that helps create a seamless environment for rapid design, integration, construction and deployment. IBM technology will also allow Warner Bros. Online to remotely manage the technology from different locations and with varying degrees of access so the team can separate out permissions, as well as identify and assign specific tasks. This is of particular importance considering the number of groups responsible for actual game play.

"Warner Bros. Online is well positioned to capitalize on the promise of an increasingly on-demand marketplace in interactive entertainment," said Steve Canepa, vice president, IBM Global Media and Entertainment Industry. "IBM technology, coupled with Warner Bros. Entertainment's storytelling expertise, can deliver a responsive quality experience for online game players."
There ya go.

Singapore Goes MMO:
Singapore announces they are jumping into the MMO market with their entire country:
Game publishers looking to enter Asia have yet another reason to look to Singapore as their launchpad. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), a government agency that promotes infocomm technology, today launched a promotion program for its Games Bazaar Initiative. This adds to the Games Bazaar existing offering of a subsidized and scalable-pay-as-you-use hosting platform launched at last year's Game Developers Conference in San Jose.

Games Bazaar's Promotion Program
Currently, game publishers face cultural and technical hurdles for each of the Asian gaming markets. The Games Bazaar's Promotion Program adopts an integrated marketing approach that will help games companies extend their market outreach through Singapore to Asia by assisting them in overcoming these hurdles. The program includes advertising in key targeted online and print media, regional and international consumer road shows and conferences. In addition, localization services, such as editing and language dubbing, help ensure games are adapted for local consumer tastes.

"To successfully deploy games that truly interest Asian gamers, games companies need an affordable, quick and scalable means to test market their games to different online gamers in Asia. Games Bazaar's promotion program addresses this by offering games companies a marketing platform to put beta titles into the hands of their target gamers. This in turn will accelerate their commercialization into Asia," said Hock Yun Khoong, Assistant Chief Executive, Industry, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.

The Games Bazaar's Promotion Program will roll-out in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore for a start and scale-up to include other cities over the next two years.
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is committed to growing Singapore into a dynamic global infocomm hub. IDA uses an integrated approach to developing infocommunications in Singapore. This involves nurturing a competitive telecoms market as well as a conducive business environment with programmes and schemes for both local and international companies.
