Previews: Last Kingdom
Developer: Actoz Soft Co. (Asia) Publisher: Actoz Soft Co. (Asia), Netamin (N.America) Genre: Fantasy Released: 04/04/00 Advancement System: Class/Levels Player vs. Player Combat: Restricted Competitors: Lineage, The 4th Coming, Ultima Online, EverQuest, Asheron's Call. "We dare you to challange!" The invasion continues, as the second most popular game across the Pacific makes it's way to North America thanks to Netamin who brings Actoz Soft Co.'s massive multi-player game Last Kingdom. Taking place after King Arthur and the Camelot story line a new King reigns, King Grant. With new forces of evil coming upon the land, King Grant needs valiant warriors to help save the land in a continuing storyline. Players choose one of four classes to play from Knight, Shaman, Swordsman, or Wizard to quest and free the land. Britain is at the mercy of a Black Demon controlled by an angered and enraged Arch-Bishop. These events were forseen by a wizard of King Arthur named Merlot (Merlin). To save the land, Merlot drafted a letter and sent it to the orient where those who were just and honrable would learn of the trouble King Gant would be under, and the dark times of the kingdom. Hero's would gain the letter and set forth within the Last Kingdom to stop the evil.
As players advance in levels, not only do they gain in powers, but they get the ability to create new items within game by using special tools and foraging items that already exist, adding a new twist into gaming. Expansions: None Comments: Upon reading this preview, you may have a couple of questions. You may have noticed for one that the images provided are from the Asian version of the game. While there are some excellent English images available upon other gaming sites at the time of this write none of these were available to us, and we felt that 'gangstering' images in use on other sites would be improper. Another question that may arise, as to why the English version of the images are not available to us is because at the time of this write the game is no longer available to North America, at least as far as we can tell.
Porting a game from another language is a task, and somewhere the task while given work did not work. Even common spelling mistakes were not corrected. Example being Merlot, should have been Merlin. The game play manual was just as bad, and lacking information. The website hosted by Netamin did not address many issues that were raised. The game suffered from huge bugs, server issues, instability, and a lack of interesting options, level imbalances and area's not being optimized for encounters. Some reviewers even stated that during certain levels they were in a virtual void as they were to low level to explore some of the quests in game, and that higher level quests were unavailable to them even if teaming up with other players.
While the game is not available to North America (as far as can be determined) the game is still popular in Asia and has been upgraded to version two. If you feel and or enjoy like subjecting yourself to unpleasant experiences in gaming, you could attempt to play the Asian client, or tell us where and who is hosting a North American client. Until we know other wise we have stricken this title from our preview page and consider the game gone. Discuss: |
