ULTIMA VI: THE FALSE PROPHET - Hii King Chou (12-01-98)

Note: This Article originally written by Hii King Chou and reprinted with permission.

This is the sixth and final installment to Hii King Chou's history series of Ultima. Be sure to read the introduction "History of Ultima," part one of a "Dark History," part two of the "Dark History: Continued," the conclusion to the "Dark History," the start of the "Age of Enlightenment," and the event's leading towards the end of the "Age of Enlightement."

Though long believed to be mythological creatures, the existence of Gargoyles was discovered shortly after the first expedition into the geologically unstable underworld.

At first, they seemed content to remain in their subterranean domain, but then they began appearing in Britannia, seemingly bent on doing it great harm.

Those diabolical nemeses began to seize Britannia's holy shrines and places of enlightenment.

Scores of homes and villages were destroyed during nocturnal raids mounted by the daemonic fiends, while countless others stand empty and deserted.

Local and government militias have organized in opposition to the calamitous invasion from below.

Whole brigades of skilled warriors from Serpent's Hold clashed with those tireless foes on the field of battle, but to no avail.

The Gargoyle's methods suggested that they are searching for something of great value.

It was even rumored that they may sought the Avatar's destruction.

Dozens of squads of the finest from Serpent's Hold went out to attack the camps of the invading Gargoyles. Few returned to tell about it.

The Avatar ventured forth from the shores of Britannia to enter a Moongate only to discover himself in the exotic and unbeknownst land of the Gargoyles.

After nearly being sacrificed on a Gargish altar, he was rescued with the help of his friends, Iolo, Dupre, and Shamino.

Eventually, he realizes that the Gargoyles are not evil at all, but are trying to reclaim something they claim as theirs: the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom.

Without the Codex, the Gargoyles' world was crumbling.

Eventually the Codex was placed in the great ethereal void, and peace returned once more.

Scribe's Note:
I have run out of information at this point. If you happen to posses a copy of the game manuals of Ultima VII onwards, and can send it to me (hardcopy or scanned), I'll be able complete the Chronicles. Simply email me using the scroll on the left. Credit will also be given to you where appropriate. Thanks.

We hope you enjoyed this history and feel free to add you comments or corrections to be placed in our discussion boards.
